Help Maria Burkill To Support Claudia Burkill (Child With Cancer)By
A friend of mine (Alison Meehan) told me about one of her friends; Maria Burkill, who is supporting a little girl named Claudia that has cancer (although they have the same surname, they are not actually related), so I wanted to help and spread the word about it, and offered Maria to write me a post about this, and so here’s the message from Maria Burkill to you:
“I became aware recently that my friend’s 5 year old daughter, Claudia, has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour, and became inspired by their courage, determination and stoicism in dealing with the life changing situation they have found themselves in. Hearing about the bravery of Claudia in handling a situation most adults would struggle to cope with, I felt compelled to do something to assist her family in these extremely difficult times.
After careful consideration, I decided that I wanted to do something for “Claudia’s Cause”, which would be meaningful to her and demonstrate just how deeply she is in everyone’s thoughts. Throughout her chemotherapy sessions she has lost all her hair and along with dealing with her illness, she also has to contend with being stared at and whispered comments when in public.
I have recently moved to a new country and don’t know many people so I am somewhat familiar with the stares, but I am conscious that this is by no means comparable. Therefore, by deciding to shave my head, I wanted Claudia to know that although I have been fortunate not to have experienced what she is going through, I hope that she will further understand just how special she is, and that she is worth putting myself through a little, albeit temporary discomfort for!
So, on Wednesday 31 August 2011, I will be shaving my head.
I appreciate that everyone is fatigued with being asked for sponsorship money, this is why I am asking for a small donation of £1. I hope this would mean that there is a greater chance that all my family/friends/acquaintances/colleagues/friends of friends are more likely to contribute.
£1 may simply be considered loose change, but together, what seems a small amount could be quite powerful and make an enormous difference to someone’s quality of life at a difficult time (of course if you want to donate more, then please feel free!).
£1 donations wanted please. Donations can be made at http://www.kapipal.com/29875089dba0483ab40064f77f05f16b
As I am out of the UK now and can’t come chasing you for money, please make donations to me via Kapipal. Kapipal is a service to easily collect money through the Internet.

What has happened to Claudia and her family came as a complete shock, no warning and scarily aggressively. This could happen to anyone, so please, think about your own son/daughter/niece/nephew/friend, and attempt to put yourself in this family’s shoes.
I know that financially times are tough for a lot of people, so if you can’t stretch to donating, can I please ask that you go to her page and click the ‘like’ button. Claudia is getting some enjoyment from seeing the number of likes increase, give her something to smile about!
And of course, please spread my link to your friends, to spread this story.” ~Maria Burkill
