Be Here Now– Release your mind
Most people are not centered in the present moment.
Their minds are caught up in everything but the moment right here and now.
Having your energy scattered like that makes you feel confused and unfocused and you’re easily misled by your minds ability to direct you with thoughts that create turmoil.
Being centered is the opposite of that.
Being centered gives you the ability to consciously choose where you want your attention (consciousness) to go.
But when the energy is scattered, your attention goes to whatever drama that pulls you in and then you give your full attention to whatever that is.
That’s why most people actually don’t live their lives; they live in their minds.
It’s possible to live life and be centered and to even have peace in the midst of challenges because you are aware enough to not be pulled away from the present moment.
Here and now is all we have, it’s all we really know for sure, and it’s all we ever have any control over.
When we are easily lead away from the present moment we get distracted by anything that catches our attention and then the mind follows the thoughts that are presented.
And there we go – swooshed away to the next mind-made drama!
Off we go – to more drama;
Someone looks at you weirdly and immediately the mind goes into story-telling.
It comes up with the most amazing stories about why that person looked weirdly at you.
When in reality they might just had something in their eye!
Or someone didn’t say hello back to you and now the mind goes racing and you become anxious about why they didn’t say hello back, and then the mind starts to make up stories about it and you become more and more filled with anxiety.
When in reality they might not have seen you or heard you and wasn’t ignoring you at all!
This is what happens when the mind leads us away from the present moment.
We get all caught up in mind-made stories.
And it’s all happening in our heads!
But when we’re able to be here and now, things just roll off our backs and we’re not caught up in any of the egos’ story-telling.
We simply let the thoughts go and if there’s something to be addressed, then we’ll do that the next time we see them.
All happening in the present moment. No drama involved.
The truth is that we don’t have to go with our thoughts, we don’t have to follow whatever catches our attention.
We can let things go, we can be detached and unfettered, unable to be drawn into any attempts from the ego to lead us astray from the present moment.
We don’t have to let ourselves be disturbed by anything; we really have the ability to steer away from those things through awareness.
You do not have to go there, you do not have to go with your thoughts.
- You don’t have to get upset because someone didn’t say hello to you.
- You don’t have to become anxious because someone looked at you weirdly.
- You don’t have to get angry and yell at other drivers in the traffic when the only one that actually hears you is you.
- You don’t have to be tense and worried about a meeting you’ll have next week.
- You don’t have to get all worked up because someone didn’t reply to your email immediately.
- You don’t have to _____ (whatever it is).
I mean, look at how the ego gets upset for the silliest things!
Upset about every little thing that it imagines is happening when in reality there’s nothing to be upset about since the drama is all taking place in your head.
No one knows about it but you
You have the ability to not go with any of these thoughts, none of them.
You can just let them go.
You can notice the thoughts (have awareness about them) but you don’t actually have to believe them and follow them just because they happened to catch your attention.
There are so many other thoughts you could go with. Why did you choose to go with that one?
Become aware of it now.
What are you thinking right now?
Close your eyes and become aware of your thoughts.
Then consciously choose to go with one of them and see how it draws you in.
And here’s the thing;
At any time you are free to stop going with it.
You can simply let the attention to the thought go. Just like that.
And also become aware of the resistance in letting go of certain thoughts.. how they are insisting on being ‘thought of’.
Get back here to the present moment!
Nothing is actually happening but This.
Only this, right now.
