In Times of Transition: Standing at the Crossroads of Life
In this very long article I will give you some pointers that can help you move forward when feeling stuck or afraid of taking the step.
Are you standing at a crossroad in your life and feel completely overwhelmed by the time of transition between the old and the new, or do you feel that you’re on the wrong path in life, feeling lost and totally confused and disoriented, or do you feel excited and liberated by the realization of finally being done with something and now ready to move on but don’t know which way to turn, how to start moving in the direction your heart is directing you to go?
When we have asked for the Truth, for the path that is right for us, for God to take over and live as and through us, things really begin to happen. If we have been sincere and are willing to relinquish everything for the sake of Truth, then it’s inevitable, change will come.
Maybe not immediately. Maybe first things actually start to fall apart, things and people are removed from our lives, maybe we even become totally friendless for a while, we might loose our jobs, our partners etc.
“One’s real life is often the life that one does not lead” ~Oscar Wilde
This is Life’s way of removing that which is not of it (Truth) and to make a clean slate where you will be ready to be filled with new ideas and situations that are more in alignment with who you really are, and even old dreams may come alive again.
It’s a beautiful thing and it can be a scary thing too as Life may seem to have been put on hold for a while and things go mayhem and chaotic and “everyone else get to live happily but not me” comes to mind quite often.
There may be challenges and tests to see if are you committed before you can move on.
Life may require you to let go completely of the old life before you can embrace the new.
Changes and transformations can be gradual and they can be sudden, most important thing to always keep foremost in mind is to be true to who you are and what you’re intuition is telling you, and only always here and now. No need to plan to be true tomorrow, only right now.
To plan things like that ahead only creates projections and stories of a imagined future situation when you are so going to be true and ‘tell them off’ and so on. Just stay here and now, no need to create any drama. It’s only the mind (ego) that feels the need to be defensive when transformation is about to happen.
And another important point for me to make is this:
Don’t just read this thinking it sounds great and what a good idea and so on.
I see this a lot with people (when I give free advice) and I’m not someone who babysits others holding their hands and feeling with them while stroking their little egos if they are not willing to actually do what is suggested (then I can be supportive); you actually have to do the work and not just read about it.
And write the answers down, that way you gain perspective and you get your thinking out on paper and can have a closer look at it with fresh eyes. When you have done this a few times, you can stop writing them down and simply stating the questions when being silents and still and then listen attentively when in meditation.
Stop reading horoscopes, stop calling psychics and stop asking others what to do, if only for a month!
A month, can you do that? How about a week, or just for today? If not, then really investigate into who it is that needs/are dependent on those crutches and why. If you can’t let it all go for a month or even a day, then there’s an addiction going on, and I really suggest you look into that.
Even now, check with yourself how it feels right now by only hearing the suggestion, it can be very revealing and interesting. Sometimes we’re not even aware of what holds us back before we actually have a closer look.
There’s such a freedom in just relying on oneself and the inner nudges without any outer influences from others.
You can even make this in to a month-long project and really commit to it, regardless of if you see any progress or not. See what happens. What do you have to lose?
Trust yourself. Let yourself evolve and discover new things within yourself.
Don’t be afraid of changing your mind about things, the only one you have obligations to is You. There’s nothing more important than to be true to who we are, and no one but ourselves can ultimately show the way, and for that to be possible distractions needs to be let go of and other peoples opinions as well, however skilled you think they are.
Spirituality is reality, not entertainment for the mind. Take this seriously.
Take some time for yourself and see to it that you’re not distracted by anything, and do some serious soul searching.
There’s no need to tell people about it; they’ll discover it for themselves anyway when you begin to change and by then you will have mustered up enough courage to follow through as you see Life supports you in your efforts.
Asking the right kind of questions can be life-altering, it doesn’t matter where you are in your life, whether it’s about work/career, relationships, health, habits, ..
- What is most important to me in my life?
When you know what that is (it can be multiple things, write them all down), stick to it and base all your decisions on it, and only act if they are in alignment with that which is most important in your life.
Ask yourself if your actions are supporting that which is most important to you or not.
- Does my actions support what is most important to me?
What many people fail to realize is that we all already are doing what is most important to us, but not all are conscious of it.
Many people talk a lot, have lots of opinions and make lots of promises, but are they following through?
If you’re partner says that family is most important to them and they go out on drinking benders, then that shows that no, actually, partying is more important to them. Face that fact. You may need to leave. You might have to do that. Just look at it honestly and with eyes wide open.
We all do what is most important to us in any given moment, even the “bad things”.
Seeing that clearly and with honesty can be a game-changer.
It’s by our actions and being-ness that we reveal not only for ourselves but also for others what is most important to us.
Other powerful questions can be:
- What do I know that I don’t want to know? I already know something; what is that..?
- What am I avoiding, refusing to see, although I already know the truth of it..?
We already know what we need to do, what to stay away from, what decisions to make and so on.
We all have the intuitive feeling that shows us the way in every moment of life. Trust it.
That requires you let go of hope and sentimentality as they are both of the future and past memories. Life is Now.
If you feel at a crossroads when it comes to your job or career and feel that you have out-grown it, then you can ask questions like:
- What is my intuition telling me about this?
- What do I need to let go of, and what to embrace?
- What am I not seeing clearly?
- What am I avoiding, what excuses am I making?
- What’s that thing that I have had in the back of my mind for the longest time..? That intuitive knowing; what is that?
Do you still enjoy what you do, or do I feel more and more fed up, for whatever reason?
Does your work still suit your temperament or are you feeling drawn in another direction or interest altogether?
Examine your true motives, if you’re coming from motivation (fear-based) or inspiration (heart-based), and if you have that obnoxious little voice in your head saying things like “this is all I know”.
It is not true.
When Life takes over It will live and express itself through you and your actions will be divinely inspired, they will come from your heart and from a place of love and freedom.
It may surprise you and people around you may be surprised, you may have to rearrange your whole life, but don’t worry, there’s no need to quit your job or anything drastic, just start to take steps in the direction your heart is guiding you and things will evolve by themselves from that simple action on your part.
“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” ~Joseph Campbell
- What is my true passion, where’s the fire in my belly..? How does it ignite..?
It always comes from that which we enjoy doing or that feels meaningful to us, while at the same time it contributes to the world in positive ways.
There’s still time for that childhood dream to come true!
That’s part of why we are here, to live them. If you know what that is but you don’t have a clue of how to fulfill it; ask and pray for guidance from your soul and be very attentive to what comes your way.
It can be a sudden insight or idea, it can something someone says, something you read or see, it can come in a dream at night, and it can even be a miraculous and wonderful opportunity that comes your way, completely out of the blue!
We can only ever come to know if we dare to let go and follow our hearts calling.

After you have written everything down, and when you have meditated on it, asked for guidance and clear seeing, really commit to being attentive and open to whatever comes to you in all the different ways Truth can reveal itself to you, not in a needy way, but to have total willingness to really listen and act on what feels right in your heart, even if it scares you.
Lightheartedness and being relaxed is the key. Not to go to the mind to analyse or try to figure any of this out.
When you have done the questioning and answering etc that I suggested, let it all go and go out for a silent walk in nature, or go out and make a snowman, like the one in the picture that I made with a good friend and her son a few days ago 🙂
Let go and have some good old fun and let life take over – it is far more intelligent than we can ever understand and to get out of the way so to speak allows this intelligence to really do its thing, so enjoy yourself and stay true, let go and see what happens!
