Don’t give up on your path – it will all click into place
Trust Your Path and Your True Flow in Life
If you are dealing with career burnout or find that your body and soul completely refuses to go back to a work environment that is no longer in alignment with you, see it as a shift toward your true calling in life.
In this article, I’m replying to a few emails I’ve received about the internal war between choosing financial security and choosing yourself, sharing a couple of my own personal stories about “false starts” and what they are, and relationship challenges as you grow and evolve beyond the person you used to be.
Sometimes realizing, or bringing your calling to life, takes time, but the universe is coordinating everything behind the scenes; you just have to keep following your flow, and then one day it will all click into place.
This article is for those who are struggling, or for anyone who feels their path is taking longer than they expected.
The Ask Maria Emails:
“Hi, Maria! I quit my job 6 months ago from retail due to burn out. I have been home and financially I am pressured. I applied to jobs to go back to retail but my body refuses. I feel bad and depressed just thinking I have to go back to that environment. Seems like I have outgrown those environments and I don’t want to work for anyone honestly. Just for myself. I don’t have any motivation. I am barely wrapping up my yoga and meditation training to get certified. I feel like I can no longer pretend or people please. That tank is empty. I only feel the easiest to be is authentic but bills are waiting. Been tested and through so much tug of war, choose work or choose myself. I finally chose myself. Any advice if you have gone through this..Thank you.”
“Hi Maria. I feel like I’ve taken several steps back in my spiritual progress; everything was going wonderfully. I had certainty, connection, clarity, and a sense of unity. Then a new phase began where I experienced conflict with friends and in various situations. Are these new challenges, or did I do something that took me off my soul’s path? I have constant questions: my well-being or that of others? Where is the limit of love, of this limited love we experience here? What are the signs that I’m on the right track? There is a recurring theme in my life: a feeling of being enslaved by work, or even by the spirituality course I signed up for. Is there a specific action I should take, like changing my persona, or should I simply feel what arises and observe? Thank you very much, María, for your generosity and honesty.”
“Hi Maria. In the past few months new opportunities opened up and I took action where I could. And I was like, Yes! Things are opening and it seems like as soon as things started opening, they closed. I’m continuing to move forward on projects/things that I’m excited about and seeing if there’s any traction. In some sense this relates to the first question, sometimes I feel like I’m waiting for things to happen or to hear back if something is a “go” or not.”
I’m writing this more as encouragement than a ‘how-to’ article, since I’ve written tons about these things in the past, but I link some of the older articles here so you can read more if you want to.
And you can read about my journey too on the My Story page, and on the My Earlier Years page, where I share how everything started when I went to rehab and how my path unfolded from there.
I also got this question in an email:
“Have you watched any movies/shows recently where you feel inspired to talk about the key message in it for you? My partner and I recently watched “Project Hail Mary”. It has given us a lot to discuss about human and alien potential and collaboration, space, creating the life you love, and limitlessness.”
The “Project Hail Mary” movie sounds interesting, haven’t seen that one yet, and I’m also looking forward to watching Steven Spielberg’s new movie “Disclosure Day”.
I personally believe that we will have an Alien encounter soon, it feels like it’s ‘in the air’ so it’s going to be interesting to see what happens in the near future regarding that.
But to answer your question; yes, I did watch a movie a few days ago actually, that came to mind, that weaves into the message in this article, so I thought I’d include the movie question here too.
The movie is with Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel and it’s called “Lion”. It’s a true story, a biographical drama based on the memoir A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley.
Trusting the timing of the Universe
It shows how the universe, or our intuition, has a way of guiding us even when we feel lost, or feel that there is no hope. (Spoiler alert: skip this part if you don’t want to know the story before you watch it.)
The short story is that Saroo, a 5-year-old boy, living in a small village in India, got lost thousands of miles from home. He survived the streets of Calcutta, was adopted by a couple in Australia, and got a completely new life.
And here is where the miracle happened: for twenty-five years, he stayed connected to his past without even knowing it. On the other side of the world, his biological mother refused to move from their village and kept the belief and faith that her son would one day return.
The universe ‘waited’ for all those years until human innovation caught up technologically and the timing was right. Sitting in his room in Australia, Saroo used Google Earth to search, and all he had were a few memories from his childhood, like a water tower, a bridge and a train station.
And then, after years of searching, he finally spotted the landmarks he still remembered from when he was five years old, and eventually found his birth mother and siblings. The whole story is absolutely incredible!
It shows how incredible the universe is at bringing things together, even if it takes years.
So in relation to the message of this article, sometimes it’s us that needs to grow into the things we envision for ourselves, or ‘see’ for ourselves – the calling we feel we have on our life. And sometimes it’s the world or other people that need to get ‘ready’ too, as we are all part of a huge puzzle and we all play our own role in it.
In the end, what truly belongs together and is meant to be, that will happen, even if it takes years or even decades, and the point here is to keep believing, keep doing what you feel called to do, even if nothing seems to budge on the outside, because one day it will.
It will all click into place and come together beautifully, sometimes in absolutely miraculous and incredible ways, and the more people who follow their true flow in life, the quicker the puzzle pieces will fall into place too, because that’s how we are meant to live.
We all have our own path in life (and our own timeline)
And we are all on our own level of growth and evolution in our lives, and we all have our own starting points too, and our own purposes. So keep your eyes in your own lane; don’t worry about what others are doing or compare your journey or progress to theirs.
For some it might take longer, depending on what your specific calling is, and for some other people it might not take that long to set up a business for example – it depends on what you see for yourself or what you feel your calling is.
Each path has its own challenges, because when you want to do something out of the ordinary, to become self-employed and have your own business, there can be dark times and doubt and all that kind of struggles and challenges, because most of us are not brought up to believe in ourselves and what we came here to do.
It’s actually the opposite; there’s very little encouragement when people want to forge their own path in life, and there can be many hurdles to overcome in that process before we ‘make it’.
It’s not always an easy path, but if you feel the calling, you have to follow it. You can’t give up. In my own case, I just couldn’t do anything else, I wasn’t able to, even if there were a few times I wanted to (or tried to).
Trust the pull of your true calling
I understand the tug of war that you’re experiencing, when nothing is moving the needle no matter what you do, while at the same time knowing that the ‘normal job’ path is not for you.
You might go back to an old career or job path for example, while soul soul is doing its best to encourage you to stay on your true path, and then try again and ‘fail’, going back and forth like that for a while until the full realization comes that you simply can’t follow the old path anymore, and that you have to fully commit to your true path in life.
And for this to happen, many things have to be worked through; like self-doubt, fears, limiting beliefs, and so on. So the inner work is just as important as the outer work you do, the practical part of your paths unfolding, like setting up a website, like I did, and using all your free time to build on your dream no matter how loud the world is screaming at you to do the opposite.
Ask yourself: “What other way is there than to live a life true to yourself?”
The other way is to live a life that is expected of you, or that other people think you should live, and that’s not really an option is it? It would be a soul-crushing life to live a life that is not truly your own.
So you just have to keep going, keep building, and ploughing through the hard times, and one day you will reach the point where you have your breakthrough and reap the fruits of everything you have put into it.
Most people give up too soon, don’t let that happen to you.
