Dreams and our subconscious mind
Do you dream?
I do. A lot, and pretty much every night.
For me my dreams are very much cherished and I often wake up in the middle of the night just to write down some parts of a dream, or symbols that comes to me in a way that makes me “think” in my dream that it is important for me to remember, so I wake myself up just so that I can scribble down some notes that seem important to look up and meditate on the next day.
I have a notebook right by my bed filled with my writings that I have done in the dark with my eyes closed, half sleep 🙂
Most of us have had dreams where we have been flying, and isn’t that just wonderful? I love those dreams!
When I have my flying-dreams I feel exhilarated and very powerful, and when I wake up in the morning, the feeling continues with an inner knowing that whatever I’m involved in, if there has been even a slight little feeling of doubt or fear before, it’s totally gone now, because to fly in our dreams means that we are overcoming any difficulties or doubts we might have felt in our waking life.
If we know that, and we go with the flow of it in our waking life too, we become empowered by it, rather than going back to whatever “reality” we experienced yesterday.
It’s a sign from our subconscious mind that we are stronger than we might think, and it also gives us an inner feeling of complete peace, a knowingness that All really is well. That everything is as it suppose to be.
Lately my dream-patterns has changed a bit, or a better word would be, that something new has been added to me, and when it first happened I remember that I thought it was kinda interesting but didn’t think so much about it until it began to happen more often.
The dreams feel different, and I know in my dream, while dreaming, that it is not an ordinary dream. I see things happening, and I see people and..- My God how difficult it is to explain! LOL 😀
Anyway, my point is, that I have had dreams lately where that which I have dreamt of has happened the next day or so (like when I experienced/dreamt of the earthquakes in California, and the next morning I saw that there had been over two dozens of earthquakes that night).
I have met people in my dreams, that has spoken to me and told me things, and the next day or so I have been contacted by them, and when I have heard from them, I wasn’t surprised because I already knew it would happen.
I find this very interesting, and I have a feeling that what is happening is that I have been doing something for a while, which has opened up a new channel within me.
I love the power of our subconscious mind, and what I have done for long time is that sometimes, when I have been unsure about what path to chose, or felt a bit confused at times about what to do and so on, I have turned to my subconscious mind at night, just before I fell asleep.
The thing I do is that I ask, or tell (kindly, not in a demanding way), my subconscious mind to show me pictures of what it is that lies ahead, and what the right action might be for me to take, and it never fails!
Either I get to see pictures in my dreams, or they come to me when I’m not trying to figure things out.
And what I think is happening right now, with my new kind of dreams, is that they have expanded from being only about my own stuff, to a larger kind of “seeing”.
I have no idea, but something amazing is happening! The reason for this expansion is still beyond me, but I’m sure it will be revealed to me somewhere in the process.
What I think is important to know, is that our dreams are always there to help us, and that our dreams comes from our subconscious mind who knows everything, so the more we can learn how to direct it consciously, the more they will benefit us. We are always giving our subconscious mind directions anyway by what we chose to feed it with, so why not do it with a greater sense of awareness?
You too can ask it to show you what you need to know in order to move forward in life, or ask for guidance in whatever you might want to know more about.
Tonight, when you go to sleep, when you are really relaxed and you feel you are falling into an alpha state (light meditative state of mind), speak slowly, and with strong feeling, about what it is that you need help with.
Not in a “phleeeeaze, help me with this”-kind of begging and pleading energy vibe, but in a way of absolute certainty that you will receive the answers, and with an inner feeling of gratitude and expectancy of request answered.
Find a few key words in the end of your conversation with yourself, and dwell on them until you go off to sleep.
For example; if you are not sure about what you are here on earth to do, then you could tell your subconscious mind about it briefly (not dwelling on the “problem” too long), and continue with more focus on the actualization of what it is that you want to feel and experience:
- “I have no idea about my calling or purpose in life, but I want to know, and I am open to and willing to listen, because I know that you know everything about me and my life, my purpose and my gifts and talents, and how I can be at service to the world. I feel so grateful now that I know that you are revealing to me my right place in life. Because I asked, it is given to me. I know this, and I feel so excited within, and eager now that I know our communication is clear and I can hear my own truth very clearly. I know that whatever I need to know in order to live my life to the fullest, and in the greatest joy possible, is now revealed to me in full. I completely trust you, and I love you. Thank you for helping and supporting me in your awesome ways……….. I know my purpose, I trust, I know why I’m here…. I’m joyful, trust completely… my purpose…trust…joy….ZZzzz…zzzz…zzz” 😀
This will help you open up the pathway to the life you came here to live, you will connect with your own inner truth in ways that most certainly will surprise and delight you!
Very nicely put, Maria!
Especially in how we can CONSTRUCTIVELY use our dreams. Many people fear them and see them as an ‘unknown’. In fact, just like everything else, they can serve us if we align and communicate.
Thank you Hemal 🙂
Yes, alignment and communication is what opens the door to all our inner wisdom!
I found a few quotes that you might like as well:
(I’m a huge quote-lover:-)
“That which the dream shows is the shadow of such wisdom as exists in man, even if during his waking state he may know nothing about it…. We do not know it because we are fooling away our time with outward and perishing things, and are asleep in regard to that which is real within ourself.”
~Paracelsus, quoted in The Dream Game
“Dreams say what they mean, but they don’t say it in daytime language.”
~Gail Godwin
And how about this one:
“Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.” ~William Dement
LOL 😀
Great Comment, Maria! Dreams are a powerful tool to greater self-awareness. Some years ago, I participated at a weekend seminar based on Ira Progroff”s book, “At a Journal Workshop”. The meeting was about keeping a personal diary – dialogue with people, diagologue with events, dialogue with dreams and so forth. My even sporadic journal keeping over the years and particularly my dream log with hundreds of dreams from bizarre to the most sublime has helped me enormously in finding answers to important questions in my life, including a compelling answer to years of searching to my most painful questions – Why am I here? Wy am I on this planet? What is my purpose in Life? It hurts everytime I think about how little I have done with the answers, but I am beginning to see some clouds being pushed aside. For this I am grateful to the Infinite. And I am grateful to you for sharing so generously with your readers and for showing me that cooperation and sharing is the way to go. “No man is an island”, as John Donne said, and I have been an island for too long. Thank you so much.
Benard –
Thank you for your comments (both here and on Facebook)
Thank you for sharing about yourself in that way. And I’m glad you liked the article:-)
I too write my dreams down as you know, and I love it – they have so much wisdom for us – and yeah, I have had some weird
dreams too that really makes you go “what was that all about..??” lol
Happy for you about the clouds being pushed aside <3
and for what you have shared with me before, I'm sure you have done a lot more than you might think for humanity at large.
~All the best to you!
Maria
