What If You Could Only Take Five Things With You?
A fun and revealing thing you can do to check with yourself what you truly value is to imagine this:
Imagine your house would burn down. All of it. Except five things of your own choosing.
If you could take only five things with you; what would those five things be…?
Think about it!
Five things. What would you save? Be honest with yourself! What comes to mind immediately?
Right now, as your life is at the moment; what will you take with you?
This is interesting and revealing.
Next, when you have your five things; now think about in what ways you show that you value those things in real life, in your everyday life right now.
If you wrote that you would take all your books with you for example/your whole library; check with yourself how much time you actually spend on reading every day.
Do you value your books today, or do you just like having them..?
If you said you would take gourmet food and fancy wines with you because you really appreciate fine dining; then check with yourself how often you splurge and treat yourself to nice restaurants and dinners in reality.
Or are you just talking about how nice it would be to make a really nice dinner party for your friends and family..?
If you say you would take your family with you; then how do you show them they are precious to you today?
Do they know that they matter the most to you, or are you always postponing quality time with them because you “have so much work to do”?
Makes you think, doesn’t it?
On another note; it also reveals to us if we value things that are not healthy for us; such as cigarettes or other unhealthy stuff.
If choosing something like that as one of your five things, then a major priority check and rearranging of values is absolutely something to consider.
It’s just an interesting little game; thought I’d share it with you.
Worth thinking about.
