Honor Your Low Energy Days

It’s important to honor our low energy days

If we don’t we just spiral further down into frustration.

Most people are more or less programmed to always be on the go, to always do something, to always be active and so on but we all also have low energy days.

Days when there’s no inspiration whatsoever to do anything, no motivation either, and things just simply feel flat and life-less.

So what do most people do?

They get frustrated about it, even depressed or angry.

Some get into self-pity thinking they are doing something wrong or that they are being punished or hindered by some outside force.

Depression, frustration, anger.. but not because of the low energy days themselves but because of the resistance to them.

That’s where the suffering comes from.

There is a solution to this though and here it is:

Surrender to it. Try to enjoy this phase and do nothing.

Do nothing about anything and enjoy it.

Take a day off.

Stop trying.

Stop pushing.

Let it all go and accept that it’s part of the flow to go into these quiet phases where nothing seems to happen and there is no aliveness.

Just experience everything without judgment, without resisting, without trying to change it.

Stop struggling against the natural flow of your life

It’s time to take it easy and this is how life lets you know.

The suffering and frustration comes when we judge these phases as bad or wrong and even worse if we fall into the trap of believing that we’re being lazy and useless.

What is needed is to surrender.

Surrender to the experience of being uninspired, tired and lethargic.

Allow yourself to let go of the need to change or “fix” anything.

Just have the experience, allow it to be.

You’d be amazed how quickly things change when resistance is let go of!

The change we’re looking for comes from relaxing into doing nothing and instead let ourselves fall into the natural flow of things.

This is when positive change can happen, and it happens naturally and all by itself as soon as we have let go of the tiller and stopped struggling against the tides of life.

So chill – and be amazed 😊

Something happened within me that I cannot explain

During and after our session, something happened within me that I cannot explain nor would it even make sense to anyone. There was a part of me that felt my being been taken over by a real peacefulness that I’ve never encountered before. Sounds odd but it’s the truth.

  1. Jasmine Tapper

Thank you for addressing this topic and highlighting that Low Energy Days are natural. Maria, I respect your opinion about taking the time to honor low energy days. However, I cannot help but wonder about how often “taking the time” can actually be followed. Some people have the wonderful opportunity of having a flexible schedule and can therefore take their needed break. What about students and workers that have a more stringent schedule? When there are deadlines to meet, taking a break is seldom possible. For those students ( like myself) and workers that are not able to take the needed break, I would want to know how we can work with and through our low energy days.

  2. Hi Jasmine,

Glad to hear it resonated with you. 😊

    To reply to your questions;

The reality is that we are always ‘taking the time’ to do something.

It doesn’t matter what it is, we have on some level chosen to give our time and energy to something, such as studies for example in your case.

Or full-time working single parents or whatever it may be; people with a more stringent schedule, people who have deadlines and so on.

You also have to take time for yourself, otherwise none of your other life areas will work properly or optimally.

It’s a choice we have to make, to actually ‘make’ time for ourselves, however our schedule might look like.

It can be to wake up earlier and meditate before going to work for example.

It could be to go out and sit in the park half of your lunch break instead of staying with other people and interacting with them.

It can be to not turn the TV on at night and instead just sit and be with yourself in silence for a while, breathing and connecting with your Self, or doing Yoga/streching, or cooking or baking; doing something enjoyable.

It can be to instead of browsing your social media feed when you have ‘time’, to instead use that time to do something that is more constructive and life-affirming, like going for a walk or spending time in nature.

So we all have the possibility to take breaks.

It’s what you do with the time when you’re not studying or working that makes all the difference.

The days you feel you’re in a low energy mode it’s important to honor that no matter what your deadlines are, or what responsibilities you have (kids, work, etc).

If you don’t honor yourself and your own needs, then you will at some point develop stress-related health issues that might even cause burnout.

So you need to take breaks and prioritize your health, and when you do, you will see that all the other things in your life will run more smoothly too.

But if you supress the natural flow of your energy, the less value you bring/productive you are in the long run because you’re never really operating at your best.

How can you be, if you never take a break to recharge?

So if you’re not honoring yourself and prioritizing your health and well-being, what good are you then really.

And if you’re in a job that is too stressful etc. then look for another job that is more in alignment with you, or become self-employed. Maybe you’re not meant to be in a ‘job’ but to have your own business.

    Same with parenting;

If you’re a single mom and never take breaks to just be with yourself and relax, you’re gonna burn out, you’re gonna be irritated and not very pleasant to be around, and how does your kids (or you) benefit from you being like that?

Nothing good comes from going against yourself.

If you’re always pushing yourself to ‘do’ and never allow yourself to just ‘be’, then you’re gonna grow resentful, bitter, angry and stressed.

You’re doing everbody a favor by taking time to yourself.

And not only others, but for yourself too; your own mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health.

So again; you have to find the time to just ‘be’ too at times (prioritize it), or at least slow down and relax more on the days that don’t feel very high energy-like by using the time you do have outside of your studies/work to do things that are actually relaxing and rejuvenating.

So no TV, browsing Facebook, etc. I suggest taking a break altogether from your computer/Internet/technology and instead go out for a long evening walk or something, or take a long bath, listen to music and so on.

Or just ‘be’ for a while in the mornings where you don’t ‘do’ anything but just relax, have a cup of tea/coffee and just be with yourself for a while before you start your day. Just sit and breathe for a while.

Things like that are always possible to do, wouldn’t you agree? 😊

And doing those kinds of things on your ‘free’ time is what makes all the difference in your overall well-being.

So look at what you can do to honor the flow of your own life’s energy more and start making those changes for yourself, even if they are small to begin with.

And then when you do, then you’ll see how things start to run so much more smoothly for you as you come into greater harmony with yourself and the flow of Life.

Hope this was helpful to you. 😊
