Surrender to the Flow of Winter in Your Life
Some seasons in life are meant for stillness
We have been so conditioned to constantly be in the Summer season of our lives where everything is about doing and making things happen, so when we enter the Winter phase, the ego can freak out a bit and think something’s wrong.
Because suddenly we feel a sense of spiritual disconnect, or a numbness, where things feel ‘dead’, or cold and barren, like there’s no ‘life’ in anything anymore, and we can’t hear any direction of guidance.
And that’s when the confusion sets in; you feel lost, and everything you believed just a few days ago is completely gone. You question everything, and you don’t even know what to believe anymore.
It can be a very confusing and disheartening place to be, but with awareness of the different kinds of seasons and cycles we go through as human beings, we can navigate them with more ease and reach a state of surrender and relief.
Because nothing is actually wrong; nothing is going wrong, and you haven’t done anything wrong.
Actually, you’ve done everything right. You are on the right path. Everything is going right, and you’re right on time, so don’t worry about anything.
Everything is unfolding perfectly
A winter time in our evolutionary process is a sign that you’ve reached a plateau, and while you wait there, things are being arranged and organized for you to step into when springtime comes.
So if things feel disorienting or even scary right now, know that you’re just moving with the natural cycles of growth, and that all seasons are equally valid and important.
We need all the seasons of life, and when we move with the flow of the cycles, then we can enjoy each cycle more and feel more at ease in them.
Just because we don’t feel or experience any outward movement, and just because we feel momentarily directionless, that doesn’t mean we’re actually lost.
We’re just in a winter time of our life, and the sooner we understand this, the sooner we are moved out of it because it’s the resistance to it that creates a sense of ‘stuckness’.
When we can surrender to it and go with it, we can feel a sense of relief, and that comes from understanding what’s happening. Awareness is always key. Without it, we remain lost and confused.
The Winter phase is a period of inner gestation that is preparing us for a new season of growth, even if we can’t see the path forward yet. It’s like everything is muddled.
Many times we can’t see anything at all, and even what we ‘saw’ before is gone! So it can be really confusing, and if a person doesn’t know what’s going on, they can even fall into hopelessness and depression.
Allow the winter time of your life
If you’re feeling these things at the moment and can relate to what I’ve shared so far, know that a deeper process is unfolding beneath the surface, and that you’re right on track, and nothing is going wrong.
Life is moving in cycles, and the cycles are like the seasons in nature, and our growth cycles are like that too.
You will soon start to feel the wonderful feeling of springtime again, and then you will move into Summer, and then Fall, and then back into Winter again, and so the cycles continues to unfold throughout our lives.
Wintertime is a season of stillness and deep rest. The empty and barren feeling of nothing happening, no oomph whatsoever in your life.
Many times we don’t even feel a spiritual connection anymore, there’s almost like a numbness to it, like it’s just not there even if it was really strong before, and that’s okay.
Let it be that way for a while, just surrender to the emptiness, or void. Let yourself be directionless for now, because know this; things are happening, even if they’re not visible to you at the moment.
We’re meant to rest in this phase, just being, and allowing life to do its thing.
Be with the emptiness without trying to escape it
Trust that spring will return and that this phase is needed for that to happen.
Society always rewards and pushes summer energy (productivity, constant ‘doing’, outward growth, etc.), but we need all the seasons to stay balanced, aligned, and whole.
So if you’re in a Winter time right now, it’s not something you have to ‘fix’, get rid of, or try to get out of as quickly as possible; it’s a natural part of the unfolding of your life!
It’s part of your rhythm, your flow, and it needs to be honored. We all have theses cycles of both low and high energy days and seasons.
Allow the quiet phase, and I promise you that soon you’ll enter a lively phase again.
It’s always like that, but when we’re in the midst of a winter time sometimes we get so caught up in the ego’s perspective and interpretation of it that we go into struggle and suffering.
It doesn’t have to be that way when we understand that just as nature moves through seasons, so do we.
Let springtime arrive
We do this by surrendering to the flow. To the quietude and stillness, and from there, a rebirth and the blooming of a new season can spring forth.
It’s always only when we resist or go against the flow that we come to suffer, but once we have the understanding and awareness of what’s actually going on, there’s a huge relief, and peace returns, and we can relax our shoulders and feel like we can breathe again.
And that’s when the season of renewal can set in. Spring is on its way, and it brings with it so much richness and hope after a dark and cold winter, so there’s a lot to look forward to!
The feeling of new beginnings, and a renewed spiritual connection, and the spark of inspiration starts to return. New energy springs forth within you, you feel joy again, and suddenly the things in your life that felt lifeless or even completely gone begins to come back and alive again.
In spring, life begins to move
It’s the season of new beginnings where you feel the energy of LIFE emerging, and it’s wonderful!
The seasons unfold in their own time, but we influence the timing of them by the way we move with them, that’s why it’s so important to learn how your individual flow moves, and then allow your life to unfold in harmony with it.
Your soul knows how to come back into alignment. Maybe you were guided to read this article today as a nudge from the Universe letting you know that there’s nothing to fear.
Spring is on its way – and so is Summer. And then Fall, and then Winter again, each season unfolding in absolute perfection in your life, if you let it.
It’s always about trusting and following the flow of your life – it knows the way.
It knows where you are, where you’re going, and everything that needs to happen in between, and the seasons of your life (and synchronicity) are the very path that gets you there.
So go with the flow, move with it, and it will all unfold exactly as it’s meant to.
Remember, it’s only when we go against the flow that we begin to suffer and struggle. But once we click back into place with it, we feel a sense of peace, and that’s when life can start to move forward again.
It’s always ‘moving’, but the outward movement comes in its due time.
Until then: you rest. You slow down instead of pushing forward.
Winter is not a time for action, it’s a time for stillness and reflection and where you just let yourself be.
Trust that even in the silence, life is still moving. Roots are growing deeper as you’re integrating all that you did in the other seasons. You get even more strongly anchored in alignment when you stay in a place of trust.
Things are happening beneath the surface, so you don’t need to force anything.
New life energy will return with Spring, so for now, your only job is to be with what is, and let this sacred pause prepare you for what’s next.
I hope this article was helpful to you, and that you feel the click within.
And PS: The funny thing is, that when you truly let go of the need for progress and forward movement, even just for today, you might be surprised at how quickly things begin to shift.
Here’s a 17-minute meditation for you: the “Let Go” Meditation.
Once the resistance is gone, Life can flow freely again. 😊
